FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
BELT TESTING
Q:I am an online student. How do I test in the Philippine Combatives™ System?
A:There are there different ways you can test in the Philippine Combatives™ system.
1. Find a PMAA official school near you an set-up an appointment to take a test with one of the PMAA certified ACTIVE Instructors. Black Belt testing is not included with this option.
2. Attend one of our regional events and schedule your testing before or after the event.
3. Test ONLINE - You can test by sending in a video of your performing the requirements. Uploading your testing video is so easy and can be done under member's section once you are logged in as a student. This is by far the most convenient and most economical way to take an examination with Philippine Martial Arts Alliance. However, this option is not available if you are testing for Black Belt level..
Q:How much does it cost to test for a belt in the Philippine Combatives™ System?
A:The testing fee is &99 per level for PMAA Online University students. Your testing video will be evaluated by the State or Regional Directors and will be double-checked for accuracy by Guro Melegrito himself. Please keep in mind that the testing fee is charged per level and it comes with your PMAA belt and rank certificate. All shipping and handling charges are also included with the fee.
Q:Do I need to purchase the online course to test for rank promotion in the PMAA?
A:No,as long as you can perform the given requirements in the Philippine Combatives™ rank you are applying for. It is irrelevant for us whether you learned the requirements from our online training university or from some of our current and previous members.
Q:When can I test?
A:Test whenever you feel ready and confident that you can perform all the given requirements for the rank you are applying for with proper speed and accuracy.
Q:What is the Belt Structor of the Philippine Combatives™ System?
A:Below is the belt system utilized in the PMAA HQ. Since most schools have different belt system in placed, PMAA issue certificate in LEVELS instead of COLOR BELT system. PMAA HQ does not mandate the HQ belt system to be followed by the Charter schools. Because of this, we speak the language of levels instead of what belt a student is. Please bear in mind however that "online university student" will be given the belt associated with their rank following the PMAA HQ belt system below.
Q:If I am Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) practitioner in other system, will PMAA recognize my rank?
A:Yes. We recognize ranks up to Black Belt level from other Filipino Martial Arts styles but in order to get ranking from PMAA, you must perform all the given requirements to the rank you're applying for.
Let's say you're awarded a level 3 (Antas Tatlo) from your previous system and want to get the 4th level (Antas Apat) in the Philippine Combatives™ System, you must then be able to demonstrate all the given requirements of Philippine Combatives™ form level one to level four (rank your applying for) to get a level four ranking from PMAA.
If you are already a Black Belt in Filipino Martial Arts from other organization and want to also get Black Belt ranking in the Philippine Combatives™ System; in order to officially issue the rank; we must verify your knowledge and proficiency in the technical requirements of the Philippine Combatives™ System. The best way for you to do this is to come to one of our regional events since we cover most of the requirements during that time and you can then see them all at one time. Evaluation like this must be pre-arranged. Another way to do this is by seeing one of our Active Certified Instructors and possibly setting-up a private lesson to cover what you can during the allotted time. Lastly, we recommend that you get started with the PMAA online university level one right way for this can potentially save you time and potentially hundreds of dollars on travel expenses. Doing this to start with will given you a sense of familiarity with our system and will give you a better idea on how to go from there.
